A painting illustrating a family story of a pivotal moment in the escape from genocide in Iran.
Thugs employed by the Ottoman government to kill Christians in the name of Islam went around house to house asking for the names of Christians in the neighborhood. A Muslim neighbor of my family's hid them during this time, and family legend says, swore on the Q'ran that he was not hiding Christians. And thus we were able to escape in the space between two very different interpretations of Islam.
